Artificial Intelligence

As per IFF (Incognito Forensic Foundation), there are top 5 latest cybersecurity technologies or trends out there, that I think would make great sense if I go with one of those for this blog, so I decided to go with Artificial Intelligence or AI (A. 2019, November 8).

One of the reasons I decided to go with this trend was because of some of the videos that I saw on YouTube a while ago along with a documentary that was all about AI. Before we begin, I would like to request if we can watch this quick 2-minute video using the below link before we move forward:

So what is AI? AI or Artificial Intelligence is a smart machine or robot that’s capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence. Many of these artificial intelligence systems are powered by machine learning, some of them are powered by deep learning. As we saw in the above video, shooting a target while moving or be able to sense enemy vs. non-enemy requires intelligence that’s possible via AI (What is Artificial Intelligence? How Does AI Work? | Built In. n.d.).

When building AI machines, there are four approaches that we can keep in mind that help us understand AI better as well:

  • Thinking humanly
  • Thinking rationally
  • Acting humanly
  • Acting rationally

The first two ideas concern thought processes and reasoning, while the others deal with the behavior. Most of us may be surprised to know that there are AI front desk receptionist in some of the hotels in Japan where entire check-in/check-out (and more) can be done via AI robots, see the video below that I was able to find:

So now the question is when was AI invented? It was back in the first half of the 20th century, somewhere around 1950, when science fiction familiarized the world with the concept of artificially intelligent robots. Back then we had a generation of scientists, mathematicians, and philosophers with the concept of artificial intelligence (or AI) culturally assimilated in their minds. From 1957 to 1974 computers were capable of storing more information than ever and became faster, cheaper, and more accessible to the public. Now we live in the age of “big data” where artificial intelligence can be seen in several industries such as technology, banking, marketing, and entertainment.

As far as AI's future concern, we are already there for the most part. For example, we got machines that call humans, even allows us to make conversation in two different languages. We can also see driverless cars on the road, Tesla as an example, and Uber air taxi to bring passengers from one place to another without any human interaction and more (S. 2020, April 23).

It sounds amazing but in reality, it’s going to bite us back as far as job displacement especially in regards to income or education. Most of the jobs will be replaced by AI because AI can perform all routine task that human does while learning itself. (Thomas, M. 2021, April 14). Another side, AI won’t get old or be tired of work including asking for raise as they’ll be able to work 24/7 that will be way more productive than humans.

Look at Amazon, their giant warehouse where they got more than 100,000 robots but picking and packing functions are still performed by humans but that will change in the future.

In my personal opinion, based on my understanding and based on things I have read on AI so far. We humans should be too much concerned/scared about moving forward with AI because once AI will be smart enough, it can even destroy us, which is why we always want some sort of backdoor to prevent the same. We, humans, are so excited when moving with the latest technology but at this point, we can’t predict the future. I know there are several movies on the same that I think are great to understand the concept on this topic. I think we humans should be fair to other humans and should make a reasonable decision instead of working towards reducing the cost in every scenario because all humans need a job that’s already impacting by AI as technology is growing and computers are becoming faster and faster compare to past.
